Née en 1978 à Yeovil, Somerset. Vit et travaille à Brighton au Royaume Uni.
C’est en 2007 que Pam Glew commence à réaliser des œuvres sur drapeaux et textiles recyclés en réaction à la guerre, avec notamment « Afghan Girl », qui fera ensuite la couverture du journal Le Monde. L’artiste collectionne les tissus anciens qu’elle déconstruit, décolore par l’eau de javel, teinte et coud avant de les contrecoller sur panneau. Elle affectionne particulièrement les drapeaux, les quilts, le denim vintage ou les étoffes anciennes telles que les imprimés des kimonos japonais, une façon d’explorer et de questionner la manière dont l’identité se construit par les lieux que nous habitons.
Une fois les tissus choisis, lavés, teints, assemblés et contrecollés, elle construit son œuvre lentement à l’aide de couches de peinture acrylique, d’encres et de pigments. Les portraits qui apparaissent peu à peu sont le plus souvent ceux de femmes, comme un clin d’œil à leur rareté dans l’histoire de l’art.
Pam Glew a participé à sept grandes expositions individuelles et à plus d’une centaine d’expositions collectives, aux côtés d’artistes tels que Damien Hirst, Tracy Emin et Peter Blake. Elle a exposé au Dallas Contemporary et au Honolulu Museum of Art et a participé aux principales foires d’art à Londres, New York, Miami et Séoul. Elle a également réalisé des commandes pour Armani, Ralph Lauren, MTV et Microsoft et a collaboré avec le photographe emblématique Terry O’Neill.
