Born in 1961 in Comines, Belgium, where he still lives and works.
Ronald Dupont’s urban scenes perfectly illustrate the frenetic agitation and energy of New York, the city that never sleeps. They are representations of Manhattan seen through the eyes of a European artist. His point of view is interesting and unusual and often the angles chosen are unknown to New Yorkers themselves. Although his paintings are colorful and figurative, they are deliberately spare, while the features of his recurring characters allow themselves few demonstrative expressions.
Backed by a solid pictorial technique and an obvious chromatic sense, Dupont takes the liberty of unfolding the film of his numerous trips to New York and the United States like a travel diary that is both real and subjective – the world he depicts is peaceful, not a hostile jungle, but a place as if out of the world, out of time, eternal.
Self-taught, he has been painting since 1988. His first noticed exhibitions date from 1994. He is now presented throughout the world: Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Italy, the USA, Lebanon, Dubai, Japan … and at the gallery Artima since 2011.
