Biography

Was born in 1965 in Great Britain. He lives and works in London.

British artist Jonathan gathers the diversity of his paintings and drawings under one single theme: the human condition. Deriving from his philosophic and psychological research – Huxley’s art acknowledges references to Jean-Paul Sartre or Irvin Yalom’s existentialism.

For more than 20 years now – Jonathan Huxley has been exploring the human figure and the living in general (including animals). His “figurescapes” consist in a process of arbitrary repetition of one same image and one same movement: he endlessly extends a set of forms and colors – until the latter becomes a sort of pattern.

The repetition of the images and the pattern is used as meditation tool. The artist observed for a long time Tibetan monk’s religious and artistic rite; therefore it is not surprising that Jonathan Huxley got inspired by the meditative process of creation and by the mandala and mantra’s shapes in particular.
