Mo was born in 1969 in Singapore. He lives and works in Paris.
After Trans-Europe, Coast to Coast and Brooklyn, chapters of his uninterrupted travel around the planet, Mo today presents us the city where he settled in 2000: Paris. Like a treasure hunt, he presents us the capital, district by district, multiplying points of view and low-angle shots. Mo makes us rediscover characteristics details of the Haussmann buildings: alignment of high windows, continuous balconies, cornices, sloping roofs pierced by dormer windows… His chromatic pallet explores the pearl tones of the zinc bathed by a cold light. Different shades of blue going to stormy grey, enhanced here and there with red or yellow, are the Ariane’s thread of this new Parisian series.
The aesthetic search for MO is about impressions that an urban subject can create and cause on the spectator. With this intention, the colour is of primary importance. His pallet seems to be reduced to some colours, dark and deaf, those of the ground. The light is always present, strong and contrasted. It insufflates life and energy to these modern landscapes, still accentuated by the opposition between the dense colours and large tracts of white space which cover the background of the canvas. As if the subject and the time which is referred to it, were suspended. The frequent run-outs evoke the taste of the artist for traditional Chinese watercolour painting and suggest with a certain air of melancholy the idea of continuity and the verticality of the city.
