Works
Biography

Born in 1978 in Yeovil, Somerset. Lives and works in Brighton, UK.

In 2007 Pam Glew started making works on flags and recycled textiles as a response to war, notably ‘Afghan Girl’ later appeared on the front cover of Le Monde Newspaper. The artist collects old fabrics which she deconstructs, bleaches, dyes and sews before pasting them onto panels. She is particularly fond of flags, quilts, vintage denim or old fabrics such as Japanese kimono prints, a way of exploring and questioning how identity is constructed by the places we inhabit.

Once the fabrics have been chosen, washed, dyed, assembled, and laminated, she slowly builds up her work using layers of acrylic paint, inks and pigments. The portraits that gradually appear are mostly of women, as a nod to their rarity in art history.

Pam Glew has participated in seven major solo exhibitions and over one hundred group shows, alongside artists such as Damien Hirst, Tracy Emin and Peter Blake. She has exhibited at the Dallas Contemporary and the Honolulu Museum of Art and has been shown at major art fairs in London, New York, Miami and Seoul. She has also completed commissions for Armani, Ralph Lauren, MTV and Microsoft and has collaborated with iconic photographer Terry O’Neill.
