KEN YASHIKI

KIMEKOMI

Born in 1993 and trained in textile design, Ken Yashiki has given a contemporary twist to the ancient technique of Kimekomi (wooden dolls dressed in fabric inserted into grooves and symbols of protection for little girls).

He now replaces wood with foam and kimonos with second-hand clothing. His textile assemblages thus become portraits imbued with personal stories.

Today, his works are a universal mirror of youth and its codes.

HONFLEUR

Focus on…

Frédérique TRISTANT

For the start of the new season, the Honfleur gallery is focusing on the work of Frédérique Tristant. Born in 1971 in Vannes, she presents colorful, delicate, and poetic works that combine paper, gouache, and acrylic. She revisits the female portrait from the perspective of a physical envelope that brings memories to the surface of the skin. The folds and wrinkles of the tissue paper anchor her work in the genre of vanitas, and the motifs she chooses allow her to move from a real photographed person (very often her children) to a fictional character. By recreating imaginary and nostalgic childhood geographies, she tells personal stories that become universal.
